Terry Malloy dreams of being a prize fighter, even while tending his pigeons and running errands at the docks for Johnny Friendly, the boss of this dockers union. Terry witnesses a murder from two of the thugs of Johnny, and later meets with the dead man's sister and feels responsible for his passing. He introduces him to Father Barry, who attempts to force him to give information for the courts that will smash against the dock racketeers.
