The Libner brothers are: The oldest, Marvin (Daniel Stern), is a sergeant in the United States Air Force. Buddy (Arye Gross), the middle child, is a fearful fantasist. Bobby (Patrick Dempsey), the youngest, is a handsome reform school rebel. They used to fight a lot as kids, but now they barely speak. During the summer of 1963, their tough and eccentric father, Fred (Alan Arkin), assigns them the task of transporting a 1954 Cadillac purchased for their mother, Betty (Rita Taggart), from Detroit to Miami. As the journey progresses, the three brothers fight and reconnect, all while attempting to keep the Caddy in pristine condition.
